HP TouchSmart PC Ad
I saw a really elegant ad for the new HP TouchSmart PC. Even though it reminded me a great deal of Minority Report it still had some very elegant and beautiful elements. More beautiful than clever but you can appreciate that too

Pay a penny for your ad…
You don’t always need a huge budget and complex special effects to get your message across. In a world where ads are getting more complex and more expensive it is great to see something made with peanuts!
The Datum Line
When it works, advertising makes consumers afraid of missing out on the hottest new trend. Now that the latest, most fearsome trend is heat itself, it’s fitting that two admen devised a scenario to inspire worry on a grand urban scale. A creative team at JWT New York, Greg Matson and Phil Arias (Arias is now at Grey), submitted a lean presentation-three sentences and one photograph-that reads like conceptual art, but metes out a warning: “We propose to turn off every light on the northern Midtown Park Avenue corridor except those on the 8th floor. For a night, pedestrians will be placed under what could be our new waterline. For a night, corporations will demonstrate how to prevent it.” This won at the I.D. Magazine Awards 2008.

Oasis ‘Cactus Kid’ hit by loads of complaints
The ad which depicts a young girl and her mutant cactus boyfriend has received 11 complaints claiming it glamorises teenage pregnancy and is irresponsible to suggest people should drink Oasis rather than water. I am really starting to wonder if there are a handful of people in the UK who just sit watching TV looking for things to complain about. The advert, created by Mother, is obviously a humorous spin on the whole teenage rebellion! Get over it!
Frijj Horror!
Frijj in collaboration with Grey London have launched some rather funny virals spoofing 50’s horror movies such as The Thing and Blob. Nice and thick, take a look http://www.brandrepublic.com/Campaign/Creative/54494/
New Orange strapline: ‘I am’
Orange has unveiled ‘I am’ as their new strapline which will replace ‘the future is bright, the future is orange’. I am not entirely convinced by this branding move as I personally felt their strapline was probably the strongest aspect of their image and brand culture. Fallon launched a rather touching ’I Am Everyman’ television commercial to back the new campaign but besides the rather romantic tone leaves much to be desired from the new strapline. We will have to wait and see.
